Home Maintenance Tasks to Tackle This Spring 🌾

Happy first day of spring! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it’s time to start thinking about spring cleaning and home maintenance. As a real estate agent, I know how important it is to keep your home in tip-top shape, so here are some spring home maintenance tips to help you get started:

Roof Peak
  • Clean gutters and downspouts:I know, I know, it’s not the most glamorous task, but it’s important! Clogged gutters can lead to water damage, and that’s not a good look for anyone.
  • Inspect your roof:  Winter weather can be tough on roofs, so take a peek up there and make sure everything looks good. If you see any damage, it’s best to get it fixed sooner rather than later. Look for missing or cracked shingles, and check the flashing around vents and chimneys to ensure they’re in good condition. If you notice any issues, it’s best to address them before the summer storm season.
  • Check for air leaks: Drafty windows and doors can let in unwanted air and raise your energy bills. Use a door sweep and weatherstripping to seal any gaps and cracks around your windows and doors.
  • Service your HVAC: Before the hot weather hits, make sure your AC is in good working order. You don’t want to be stuck in a hot house with a broken AC, trust me.
  • Inspect your deck or patio: After a long winter, your outdoor space may need some TLC. Check for any loose boards or cracks and give it a good scrub down.

  • Clean outdoor spaces: Spring is the time to clean up outdoor spaces like decks, patios, and walkways. Power wash surfaces, remove any moss or algae, and apply sealant or stains if necessary.
  • Check for pests: Spring is the time when pests like ants, termites, and spiders come out of hibernation. Check for any signs of infestation and take steps to keep them out of your home.
  • Landscaping: Plant some flowers. Finally, the fun part! Spring is the perfect time to add some color to your home’s exterior. Whether you’re planting a garden or just adding some potted plants, a little bit of greenery goes a long way.

  • Spring cleaning:  Spring is a great time to give your home a thorough cleaning. This includes dusting, vacuuming, and washing windows to make sure your home is fresh and clean for the new season.

Follow these spring home maintenance tips and your home will be looking its best in no time. And who knows, you may even enjoy cleaning out those gutters (okay, probably not, but I tried 😉).
